General Information for Qualifying Round

Computerized Qualifying Round:  January 29 - February 2, 2024

  • Competition is restricted to students in grades 9-12.
  • Participation in the Final Round is restricted to residents of Minnesota.
  • Teachers who have students who want to compete in the competition will be able to register students online until JANUARY 24, 2024.
  • Students will take the 1 hour preliminary test during the week of JANUARY 29 - FEBRUARY 2ALL students from a given school must take the test at the same time, at a time determined by the individual school.
  • Students must be registered to compete and will receive an identification ID that they will use in the competition. There is no limit on the number of students who can participate!
  • The questions for both the Preliminary and State Competitions come from the book Brain Facts published by the Society for Neuroscience. Brain Facts is available free online here.
  • Teachers MUST proctor the computerized exam. The exam can be taken at the school, in a local library, or in a local community center. 
  • Students will log in and take a timed, multiple choice and short answer test.
