Brain Awareness Week

The Brain Awareness Week (BAW) program in Minnesota is truly a statewide effort! The University of Minnesota Twin Cities focuses its efforts on the elementary schools in the 7-County metro area. Each year, different school districts are targeted. Check out School Schedule to see when the BAW program will be coming to your school district.

The University of Minnesota Duluth School of Medicine focuses its BAW efforts in Duluth and surrounding communities. Check out http://www.d.umn.edu/medweb/BAW/ for more information.

Each BAW presentation lasts about one hour and is filled with:

  • "Hands on" demonstrations that highlight brain anatomy, function and how the nervous system works.

  • Activities to demonstrate vision, reflexes, perception and memory

  • Comparison of different types of animal brains

  • The chance to see a real human brain and spinal cord!

  • At the end of the presentation, each teacher is given web resources where more information and activities can be accessed.
