Research Description:
Brain tumors such as glioblastomas are a ravaging disease that claim lives in a matter months after diagnosis. "An order to the chaos" came with the discovery of brain tumor stem cells. These are the cells that impart resistance to chemotherapy and radiotherapy post surgery thus making the disease incurable and immediately fatal.
Whereas, the research on miRNAs opened doors to a new layer of regulation of cellular processes, brain once considered immune privileged has been the focus of recent immune based therapies. The aim of my research is, therefore, to find a common ground amongst these three disciplines with the objective to find novel cellular targets that could, in the long run, be used to find a cure for this disease.
