Assistant Professor

Research Interests:

My research interest is regional brain development under typical and adverse perinatal conditions. I use high-field 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy and immunohistochemistry to evaluate the effects of adverse events on the developing brain regions. The developing hippocampus is of particular interest to me. My long-range goal is to mechanistically link changes in regional neurochemistry and structure with behavioral outcomes in an attempt to devise preventive and therapeutic strategies. Some of the current research projects in my lab are 1) substrate utilization and neuroprotection during acute hypoglycemia, 2) structural and behavioral effects of chronic hypoxia and 3) energy metabolism in perinatal iron deficiency.
