Brain Awareness Week

The Brain Awareness Week (BAW) program in Minnesota is truly a statewide effort! The University of Minnesota Twin Cities focuses its efforts on the elementary schools in the 7-County metro area.

The University of Minnesota Duluth School of Medicine focuses its BAW efforts in Duluth and surrounding communities. Check out http://www.d.umn.edu/medweb/BAW/ for more information.

Each BAW presentation lasts about one hour and is filled with:

  • "Hands on" demonstrations that highlight brain anatomy, function and how the nervous system works.

  • Activities to demonstrate vision, reflexes, perception and memory

  • Comparison of different types of animal brains

  • The chance to see a real human brain and spinal cord!

  • At the end of the presentation, each teacher is given web resources where more information and activities can be accessed.
